In June, we participated in the W3summit at Piazza Gae Aulenti in Milan at the IBM headquarters, organized by Sara Noggler. First of all, we take this opportunity to thank her for actively involving us!
For the event, we began exploring with Sara the advantages of having an NPC avatar to represent us at an augmented reality event.
Specifically, we created a similar-looking avatar to which we gave voice through a personal recording of Sara.
But what did we do with it?
First, the artifact was useful for creating a teaser video for the event, which could be shared to convey the spirit of the event, linking professionalism and digital, but in a real location like Piazza Gae Aulenti.
Additionally, the avatar was used to create interesting videos and photos of the physical person next to their avatar on stage or around the location, creating engaging effects and setups, particularly for social media.
In hindsight, we realized how using your avatar at such events certainly directs the event's narrative in a particular way, but it could also be used alternatively. One could use their augmented reality avatar at events they cannot physically attend for various reasons. This would still allow the character to have a presence at the event, while for the event, it could also represent a sort of quality certification stamp!
