Web 4.0, Metagate and Mixed Reality: The Revolution of Digital and Real Interaction
The European Union has defined the Web 4.0 how the integration and fluid communication between digital and real objects and environments create immersive experiences that transform our interaction with the world. The Commission's Web 4.0 strategy aims to guide the next technological transition, proposing a vision based on four fundamental pillars:
- Inclusivity and Safety: Ensure that digital environments are accessible and secure for everyone, protecting privacy and ensuring the reliability of information.
- Empowerment of the Population: Investing in the development of advanced digital skills to train experts capable of supporting technological evolution.
- European Industrial Ecosystem: Sustain technological innovation and reduce fragmentation by creating a competitive and collaborative market that promotes excellence.
- Government and Social Innovation: Promote virtual public services to improve quality of life by applying technologies that have a positive and tangible impact on society.
In 2022, the global virtual worlds market was worth 27 billion euros, and it is expected to grow to 800 billion by 2030. Future applications range from health, with surgical simulations, to industry, with significant savings in resources and time, also contributing to the green transition.
The Mission of Metagate in Web 4.0
Metagate is a leading company that translates the European vision of Web 4.0 into mixed reality (Mixed Reality, MR) applications, enabling unprecedented interactions between the digital and real worlds. Thanks to advanced technologies, Metagate creates immersive experiences that expand the potential of communications, del industrial design, dell'art and dell'education.
Immersive Interactions in Mixed Reality at MEET in Milan
At the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan, Metagate presented the ATLAS event, where it transformed digital art into an immersive experience. Visitors, using Meta Quest 3 headsets, interacted with animated artworks that reacted to the surrounding environment, with lights and sounds changing in real time. Thanks to the multiplayer mode, multiple users could share the same experience, creating a new way to enjoy art in a group. This Mixed Reality application highlighted how technology can enhance social connection, making artistic interaction a moment of community cohesion.
Innovation in Communication at Videocity
At Videocittà, Metagate brought Mixed Reality to the events and communication sector. In collaboration with artists like Vandalo Ruins and collectives like NFT CC, it created an interactive environment with digital creatures and works from Dimensions DAO and We Are Not Collective. Participants, thanks to the Meta Quest 3 headsets, experienced a moment where the boundary between real and virtual dissolved. The co-location mode allowed these interactions to be experienced in groups, transforming the perception of events into moments of true connection, perfect for amplifying engagement and visibility on social media.
Industrial Applications in Lugano with Garage Italia
At the Digital Couture Summit and during the NFT Fest in Lugano, Metagate showcased how Mixed Reality can revolutionize the industrial sector. By collaborating with Garage Italia, it allowed visitors to customize a Spiaggina 500 in real-time, modifying colors and aesthetic details through an MR interface on Over the Reality. This example demonstrates how Mixed Reality not only enhances the customer experience but also improves production efficiency, reducing transportation costs and lowering CO2 emissions related to logistics. Such applications open new perspectives for sustainable and interactive design.
Education and Cultural Heritage
In the field of education, Metagate has had a remarkable impact with the "Time Machine" project. Thanks to geolocalized augmented reality, users can explore the history of Milan through historical images that come to life. This approach makes learning more interactive, facilitating a deep and engaging understanding of local history. It is a striking example of how Mixed Reality can transform education, making knowledge accessible and exciting for everyone.
So?
Metagate continues to be a key player in realizing the EU's vision for an ethical, secure, and inclusive Web 4.0. Its specialization in mixed reality translates into applications that enable seamless communication between the digital and real worlds, offering immersive experiences that redefine how we live, work, learn, and communicate. With a strong commitment to sustainable innovation, Metagate is leading a technological revolution that promises a more connected and responsible future.
