We are excited to announce that Meta has officially approved the update of OpenGate with Multiplayer support! 🚪✨
OpenGate is the Mixed Reality experience that lets you:
- spawn 2D, 3D, video assets and AI avatars in your real space,
- save and reload your custom scenes,
- interact with animated virtual assistants powered by artificial intelligence,
- all on the Meta Quest 3 headset, in mixed reality and with hand tracking.
With the new Multiplayer update, OpenGate becomes even more powerful:
Shared experience: multiple users can enter the same scene and see in real time the objects spawned by the host.
Simplified control: only the host has access to the creation and management tools (toolbar, panels), ensuring stability and clarity for everyone.
Synced scenes: as soon as you enter a multiplayer scene, all assets loaded by the host are automatically shown to all other users.
Real collaboration: images, videos, 3D models, and AI avatars become shared content, powering events, installations, and multi-user projects.
🔁 The app maintains a two-scene structure:
- Single Player Scenes (personal, private experience)
- Multiplayer Scenes (shared and synchronized experience)
🤝 Only the host has the control toolbar
A fundamental design choice to:
- ensure full control to the host (no user conflicts),
- simplify the experience for participants, who don’t need to learn commands or interfaces,
- prevent accidental changes or asymmetries in the shared scene.
🧠 AI Avatar integration also in Multiplayer
Goal: to allow shared experiences with AI characters, even in groups.
- 🤖 AI avatars are managed by the host and visible to other users.
- 💬 Every user can see the conversation, but only the host can start or modify it.
🌐 On-demand asset synchronization
Goal: to ensure that every user who enters a scene sees exactly what the owner of the experience sees, without needing to recreate it 📦 This includes assets, position, rotation, scale, filters, avatars, etc.
🧰 Standard asset library included
To simplify and speed up the setup of scenarios, especially in public contexts or at events, we have included a standard asset library ready to use.
This collection contains selected 3D models already optimized for Meta Quest 3.
Users can also use them without uploading their own files, enabling rapid multiplayer scene launches in seconds.
💡 Ideal for those who want to test the experience or offer a quick, consistent demo.

🔍 What is OpenGate Multiplayer really for?
The multiplayer extension of OpenGate opens up new possibilities for using mixed reality on Meta Quest 3, designed not for traditional gaming, but for cultural, creative, and collaborative contexts.
Here are the main real-world use cases:
🏛️ Museums and Exhibitions
With OpenGate Multiplayer, visitors can share the same experience in real time:
- the host (guide, curator, educator) controls the visual and narrative assets to be shown,
- visitors see and follow the interactive experience, freely walking in the physical space,
- it’s possible to spawn 3D artworks, historical videos, augmented images, all synchronized between headsets.
💡 A way to turn any room into a shared narrative environment, keeping things easy for visitors thanks to the host.
🎤 XR Events and Installations
During a public event or fair:
- the organizer (host) sets up the scene: for example, a virtual stage, AI avatars, or custom content,
- guests with a headset see everything that is spawned, without needing to interact or configure anything,
- you can engage an entire audience, ensuring narrative consistency and scene control.
💡 Perfect for immersive temporary installations or shared stations (e.g. 1 host + 2-3 users).
🧑💼 MR Work Teams
In professional contexts:
- a remote or in-person team can collaborate on a shared scene, viewing 3D mockups, storyboards, prototypes, or creative assets,
- the host can load their saved scene and present it to colleagues or clients in real time,
- it’s a mixed alternative to Zoom or Miro calls, but spatialized, immersive and interactive.
💡 Useful for collaborative design, architecture, product demos or immersive briefings.
🔮 Roadmap: what’s coming in the next updates
We’re just getting started. Upcoming updates will bring new features designed to enhance narrative impact and immersion:
🌫️ Enhanced environmental filters
- dynamic combinations of materials and LUTs to change the visual atmosphere,
- themed visual effects for events, art, and edutainment.
🔊 Spatial audio
- 3D sounds attachable to assets and avatars,
- localized auditory interaction to increase realism and presence.
📄 PDF and GIF support
- the ability to display documents, slides, and animated content in real space,
- tools for education, training, and communication.

The OpenGate Multiplayer project is constantly evolving.
We are listening to feedback from museums, schools, creative teams and cultural organizations, to offer the very first true multiplayer MR platform that is simple, versatile, and ready-to-use on Meta Quest.
