In July 2025, the historic Broletto of Novara became the stage for a groundbreaking Mixed Reality experience thanks to Metagate and its platform OpenGate XR. On the occasion of the exhibition Intermediazioni Cromatiche, curated by Marta Ballara, visitors explored both digital and physical artworks within virtual environments, guided by interactive AI avatars on Meta Quest 3.
OpenGate XR: the future of exhibitions is no-code, accessible, and immersive
Launched for the first time live at the Broletto, OpenGate is Metagate’s no-code platform for creating Mixed Reality exhibitions. Developed for Meta Quest 3 headsets, it allows users to:
- upload images, videos, and 3D models directly to the cloud from their account
- arrange objects in the real space using hand-tracking
- customize an AI avatar (appearance and knowledge) with which visitors can interact via voice
- save and reload the scene at any time
- enable multiplayer mode to experience the exhibit with other users
A system designed for museums, schools, events, and independent curators who want to independently set up immersive exhibitions without technical or financial barriers.
Three Mixed Reality experiences by Metagate
1. Cryptomadonne – Holy Club with Beatrice Vigoni
A pixel art project reinterpreting the Marian figure through a critical and contemporary lens. Visitors interacted with the artist’s AI avatar, deconstructed and reassembled the Cryptomadonna in real-time, and shared videos of the experience in multiplayer mode.
2. OpenGate with Andrea Barbara Romita
A custom MR scene where the artist presented his digital works, made explorable and manipulable through the headset, offering the audience an immersive and intuitive experience thanks to his AI Avatar.
3. Unspoken Archives – Emanuele Dascanio
A virtual MR gallery where the artist's works are certified on the blockchain (Ordinal) and set in a navigable, interactive space. A fusion of classical art, Web3, and immersivity.

With OpenGate’s live debut and three co-created digital environments, Metagate confirms its mission: to make Mixed Reality an accessible language for art, culture, and education.
