Safety training enters a new dimension thanks to Mixed Reality. At Ambiente Lavoro 2026, inside the Spazio Salvo (Hall 22 B26 of BolognaFiere), FORMart, Leroy Merlin Italia, and Metagate presented an innovative project dedicated to immersive fire safety training on Meta Quest 3.
The event represented an important opportunity to showcase how XR technologies can improve learning and make workplace safety training more effective.
A fire safety experience in Mixed Reality
Opening the workshop was Domenico Salzano, RSPP of Leroy Merlin Italia, who shared the value of the initiative and the importance of experimenting with new training methodologies capable of actively engaging participants.
By his side:
- Marco Pizzini, CEO & Founder of Metagate
- Manuele Bellotto, Sales and Marketing Manager at FORMart
- Simone Lochi, Safety Training Manager at FORMart
The project stems from the collaboration between FORMart, Metagate, and Leroy Merlin Italia with the goal of transforming fire safety training into a practical, immersive, and highly memorable experience.
Why Mixed Reality is different from Virtual Reality
During the event, Marco Pizzini delved into the features of the solution developed by Metagate, highlighting the advantages of Mixed Reality compared to traditional Virtual Reality.
One of the most appreciated aspects concerns the high level of environment customization. The simulation can indeed adapt to the available physical spaces, turning any environment into a realistic training context.
Unlike VR, Mixed Reality also allows users to maintain contact with the real world. This approach offers two fundamental benefits:
- absence of motion sickness;
- hands-free usage thanks to hand tracking.
Participants can therefore naturally interact with digital objects using their own hands directly, without controllers and without losing awareness of the surrounding space.
Engagement and memorability at the heart of learning
While safety and comfort represent key elements, emotional engagement and the surprise effect remain incredibly high.
The combination of an immersive experience, natural interaction, and practical simulation allows for increased memorability of the learned procedures. Users do not just listen or observe: they act, make decisions, and directly experience emergency scenarios.
This approach fosters so-called muscle memory, making the transfer of skills into daily operational reality more effective.

Meta Quest 3 as a tool for the training of the future
The project presented at Ambiente Lavoro confirms how Meta Quest 3 is becoming one of the most interesting tools for corporate training.
Thanks to the combination of full-color passthrough, hand tracking, and the ability to understand physical space, the headset allows for the creation of immersive experiences that maintain high standards of safety and accessibility.
For FORMart and Leroy Merlin, this trial represents an important step forward toward training that is more effective, engaging, and closely aligned with the real needs of companies.

Metagate and Mixed Reality applied to safety
With this project, Metagate continues its path of innovation in the Mixed Reality sector, developing solutions on Meta Quest 3 capable of transforming complex processes into intuitive and memorable experiences.
The fire safety simulation presented at Ambiente Lavoro demonstrates how technology can become a concrete tool to improve learning, increase people's engagement, and support companies in spreading a culture of safety.
Because the most effective training is not the one you watch, but the one you experience firsthand.
